World’s Easiest Homemade Appetizer

By in Deliciousness

I’m not totally obsessed with getting compliments on my cooking but I do like it when I hear an exclamation of “Yum!” once in a while. Many times my main course isn’t quite ready when guests arrive for dinner and I want to serve something that is delicious but not too filling before we sit down at the table. I find that most appetizers can be labor-intensive and complicated. I enjoy simple food, especially when I want to focus my time and energy on the main attraction.

One of my standbys is the world’s easiest homemade appetizer: cheese crisps. Piles of cheese that is heated to crispy deliciousness.

I made these on my Breville Indoor Grill but I also make them in the oven. Here is my recipe:

1 cup shredded cheese (I prefer parmesan but cheddar also works)

Spread 1 tablespoon of cheese on the griddle or cookie sheet lined with a nonstick silicone baking mat. Cheese should be about 2-3 inches in diameter. Repeat to fill the pan with no overlap. Cook on griddle until brown. Flip over.

If baking in the oven, bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until cheese is dry and crispy.

Remove immediately to wire cooling rack. Serve while still slightly warm.

It is amazing that something so simple can taste so good. It is also a great garnish for a salad or soup. Try them and let me know what you think.

Seriously this is one of my favorite snacks! I love your blog and check it daily! They should make a movie about it.

these are “alli’s appetizers” in my book…have had them twice at their place now, and if/when i make them, this is what they will be called.
